Nordic walking with Club Med

Active holidays

So, the idea of sitting around all day is not your idea of a dream holiday. For you, a real holiday involves some exploring, some exercise, and plenty of time doing and experiencing things. Here is some holiday inspiration to help you find the right place to explore a new country while still working up a sweat somewhere other than in your hotel or resort gym.

This Indian Ocean island is known for its stunning beaches but do you know there’s plenty more to do than sitting on the beach mesmerised by the view? Well, there is.

If you prefer land-based activities you can hike through lush rainforests, climb mountains, and use mountain bikes to explore the island on some great trails. If you prefer water-based activities, splash through the warm Indian Ocean on water skis, test your balance by stand-up-paddleboarding, kayak your way across the surface of the ocean, and test your endurance while river rafting. If you have no preference, do them all! You can do each of these at your own pace and speed up as you get more confident. You’ll see plenty of the island and keep your heart rate pumping faster than normal.

Golfing on the island is a real treat. Choose to work on your handicap with some friends and walk to each hole to keep the blood pumping.

The more adventurous can try the flying trapeze. This will take some good control of your body but the thrill of taking flight from a height and free falling before landing in a wide net is like no other. It’s guaranteed to get your heart pumping from pure excitement or even nerves the minute you see how high up you are.

Where to stay

Club Med offers two accommodation options in Mauritius. There is the 4-trident Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers, which was recently refurbished with families in mind – especially families with younger children. Children under the age of 12 stay for free at this resort. If you book your flights through the Club Med Agency on Air Mauritius, children under the age of 12 fly free. Here your family, of all generations, can make new memories together and reconnect.

The 5-trident Club Med La Plantation d’Albion offers luxury accommodation for couples, friends, and families with older children. Here you can choose to stay in large superior rooms or book yourselves in to the luxurious Club Med Exclusive Collection Albion villas – complete with your own butler, a private pool and garden, free golf at the stunning Tamarina Golf Club, and more.

Both of these Club Med villages offer fantastic all-inclusive accommodation and wonderful activities including water sports. If you’d like to venture out of the resort for the day or for a few hours the on-site excursions team can help you plan it. At Club Med La Plantation d’Albion you can learn the flying trapeze at the flying trapeze school and use the golf school to help you improve your skills before golfing on some of the island’s best courses.

Discover the wonders of the island of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean Sea. It is made up of a few islands and islets making it an ideal place to use water sports to see more of the country. Its waters are a spectacle on their own – clear, bright, jewel-toned waters are a favourite feature in photographs of holidaymakers spending their days at the beach enjoying the sun and some swimming. For those in search of a more active holiday, these beautiful waters are an attraction for a whole different reason – these waters are the perfect place for some adrenalin-pumping water sports.

windsurfing with Club Med
Learning to windsurf under the guidance of a Club Med GO

Combine elements of surfing and sailing as you balance on a windsurf while navigating the wind. Once you have mastered this, try your hand at kitesurfing – a fun, action-packed extreme sport which is said to be a combination of windsurfing, wakeboarding, surfing, paragliding, snowboarding, skateboarding, and sailing. You may find that this is the only workout you’ll need all day! With the fun you’ll have and the amazing views as you balance your way splashing across the surface of the water, it is much more fun (and scenic) than staring at the screen of a treadmill, elliptical or stationery bike.

Where to stay

Club Med La Caravelle is your best bet here. The resort offers you all-inclusive holidays where your package price includes food, drinks, accommodation, in-resort activities, entertainment, and lessons for many of these epic water sports.

Water sports are only a few of many activities available as part of your package price; you can golf, play tennis, and more. Club Med La Caravelle really is the most affordable way to go and will allow you to focus on working up a sweat and having fun instead of converting Rands into Euros for your budget.

The Alps

When it comes to an active holiday, no list of suggestions is complete without magnificent winter sports like skiing and snowboarding. Cut through fresh powder on green slopes, black slopes, and everything in between. Use your core to help you balance as you zip your way down the side of Alpine inclines and get your heart pumping. Discover why so many people love skiing and snowboarding by learning these sports or rekindle your love for the sport by refining your skills.

While skiing and snowboarding are two of the most popular ways to experience the Alps and raise your heart rate, that’s not all you can do. If you’d like to try a sweat-inducing activity that’s not as intense, try Nordic Walking. You will use specially designed walking poles to help you walk your way through the snow at your chosen pace. So, you’ll be able to raise and decrease your heart rate as you choose.

Where to stay

With the Alps falling in as many countries as they do, you have your pick of countries in which to stay while visiting the Alps. Club Med offers all-inclusive accommodation in France, Italy, and Switzerland. With Club Med you can be sure that whichever resort you choose in the Alps, or around the world, it will have a great vibe, all-inclusive accommodation, and amazing activities.
